Setting up a personal site and starting up an online business or starting a  service has never been easier, but with ease of use comes a problem of how to  be heard in the sea of other, similar pages. Well, that’s what search engines  are for, but even search engines have to sort out the pages using specific ways  and algorithms, and all of them can be manipulated.

There are plenty of criteria search engines look at when determining just where in the whole global  network should your site be positioned, but one of the most important aspects  of it is how many links lead to your page. Backlinking is one of the best ways  to measure just how popular your site is and there are plenty of things you can  do to increase the ratings of your site.

First of all, make your content compelling, true and interesting. Before you  post anything, make sure that it’s all grammatically sound, no amount of link  building can help you if you botch this up. Then, make sure your web page and  site overall is properly presented online, pick the keywords for your meta tag  carefully and see what else you can do to carve out a little niche in the  internet only for yourself. There are plenty of link building tools you can use  at this stage, and you shouldn’t shy away from them, they are important part of  maintaining an online business.

The site itself has to be designed plainly and  to have plenty of sensible interlinks, the search crawlers will give you higher  ratings by default for that. Now, to get high amount of internet exposure, you  should place links to your pages in various online communities, think Facebook  and all of the similar groups, you can do yourself well to exploit the huge  number of users these networks have. Still, passing on as a spammer will not  help you and can hurt you, so be careful about what you are doing.

After social, active ways to spread the word about your site, there are also  passive ways, back links that show back to your site in the form of a review or  a page. This aspect has lesser impact on overall site score, but it’s still  very important because it’s more easily manipulated. There are plenty of  companies that will let you buy backlinks package and boost your score by a  fair margin, these companies have caches of high rated backlink pages and they  are happy to rent their ratings out to you. Bear in mind that some search  engines (google) are developing ways to scan for these types of bought links  and are trying to reduce their impact on score.
